Originally from Savannah, Georgia, James Burch is a cellist currently based in Dallas. His principal teachers include Martha Gerschefski, Andres Diaz, with whom he received his M. M. at Southern Methodist University, and Hans Jorgen Jensen. James has worked both privately and in masterclass with a number of notable cellists including Richard Aaron, Amit Peled, Norman Fischer, Zuill Bailey, and Mihai Tetel. He also received Suzuki teacher training from Pamela Devenport.
James performed Arvo Pärt’s Fratres for String Quartet (1977; ed. 1989)
and Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 2 (Company) (1984)
in the [Untitled] Festival’s first concert TIME on November 28, 2012.
